PROJECT OUTLINE
Redleaf Group was engaged to assess Native Title and cultural heritage implications of proposed amenities upgrades at Butter Factory Park, Nanango. The site has a history of gold mining and public reserve use, with significant mature vegetation and proximity to Sandy Creek and other cultural features. The assessment addressed Aboriginal and non-Indigenous heritage risk and provided a compliance pathway consistent with relevant legislative obligations.
KEY TASKS
- Desktop and field survey to identify Aboriginal and non-Indigenous heritage values, utilising statutory and non-statutory registers
- Cultural heritage risk assessment (Duty of Care) categorising areas as Category 3–5 based on disturbance, proximity to watercourses, and vegetation
- Archaeological field survey and mapping of mature trees and other features
- Site induction recommendations and provision of exclusion zones for high-risk areas
- Site Management Protocols (finds procedure, cultural heritage awareness for crews)
- Native Title assessment referencing reserve creation, historical and current tenure, and public works under Queensland Government Native Title Work Procedures
- Recommendation to afford procedural rights/notification to the Native Title Party via Future Act Notice
