PROJECT OUTLINE
Redleaf Group was engaged by Healthy Land and Water Ltd to conduct heritage assessments along Laidley Creek. The project required desktop legislative review of cultural heritage requirements, including categorisation of risks as per the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Duty of Care Guidelines. A field survey was conducted to determine existence of heritage values and significant vegetation. Consultation with the Aboriginal Party was required due to identified potential remnant vegetation and artefacts.
KEY TASKS
- Cultural heritage and native title assessment, including database and register searches for recorded heritage values
- Identification of local heritage values through review of historical and current land tenure, mapped through cadastral and aerial imagery
- Native title tenure research for all works areas, including assessment of extinguishment in freehold, road, and watercourse parcels
- Provided recommendations that comply with the statutory requirements including categorisation of risks according to the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Duty of Care Guidelines
- Use of GIS software, photography and measurements to record site values and conditions
- On site assessment of risks to compliment desktop assessment
