PROJECT OUTLINE
The Department of Housing and Public works engaged Redleaf Group to conduct a cultural heritage and Native Title Duty of Care assessment prior to works commencing on housing construction in St George. This included investigations through desktop research, register and database searches and a field survey. A mature tree was identified within the project area; thus, risk categorisations and heritage management recommendations were provided to the Department of Housing and Public Works in compliance with legislation.
KEY TASKS
- Risk categorisation of the project area, including category 5 within remnant vegetation where the mature tree was identified
- On-site investigations through GIS Mapping and photographic evidence of areas of high risk
- Preparation of formal cultural heritage and native title duty of care documentation, including mapped risk categories, tenure mapping, site management protocols, and recommendations for Traditional Owner consultation
- Native Title assessment and recommendations in accordance with the Commonwealth and State legislation
