— Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment

The Redleaf Group Heritage team was engaged by Western Downs Regional Council to engage with the Mandandanji People and conduct a site survey to develop recommendations for the cultural heritage values in the proposed project area. Artefacts had been identified in a previous site survey that Redleaf conducted as part of previous assessment requirements. Desktop analysis of the project involved database and register searches, historical research and recommendations for site management in accordance with legislative obligations.

• Desktop assessment and searches of Aboriginal databases and registers including Native Title searches
• On-site investigations including mapping and recording site with GIS equipment, photography and notes
• Categorisation of risk associated with the project and Aboriginal cultural heritage, including the identification of high value regrowth and remnant vegetation
• Aboriginal Party consultation, on-ground site survey, and clearance process with Mandandanji People 
• Development of mitigation measures through consultation with the Mandandanji People, including exclusion zones, inductions and promoting adherence to a ‘finds procedure’
